Rajpal Yadav Recalls 12 Days In Tihar Jail Over Rs 9-Crore Cheque Bounce
Rajpal Yadav spent 12 days in Tihar jail; learnt discipline, resilience.
Actor Rajpal Yadav recently opened up about his brief stint in Tihar Jail earlier this year in connection with a Rs 9-crore cheque bounce case. Yadav shared his experiences during a conversation with filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan on her vlog, offering insights into how the period shaped his perspective on discipline and resilience.
During the interaction, Yadav was seen preparing mixed vegetable rice, a dish he said reminded him of his early struggles in Mumbai when he lived with multiple people while trying to establish himself in the film industry. The discussion then shifted to his time in Tihar Jail, where he was lodged in February after surrendering to authorities in connection with the case.
While Yadav clarified that he was not assigned specific duties in jail, he stressed the importance of maintaining discipline and serving the time properly. “Voh naubat nahi thi, lekin bahut discipline se rehna tha vahan pe aur proper time kaatna tha,” he said, adding, “Maine har condition mein jeena seekh liya hai (I have learnt to live in every condition).” He also expressed gratitude for the support he received from colleagues in the film industry during this challenging period.

The legal dispute stems from a loan of Rs 5 crore Yadav took in 2010 from a Delhi-based company to fund his directorial venture, Ata Pata Laapata. The film’s commercial failure led to financial losses, culminating in the cheque bounce case. In 2018, a court convicted him and sentenced him to six months in jail, with the liability increasing after the verdict was upheld in 2019. Yadav was granted interim bail on February 16 this year after depositing Rs 1.5 crore.
Recently, the Delhi High Court granted him relief, stating he would not be taken back into custody immediately after the interim order was lifted. However, his plea seeking a 30-day extension to arrange funds was rejected, with the court reserving its final verdict. Despite these ongoing legal challenges, Yadav continues to focus on his professional commitments.
On the work front, the actor is awaiting the release of Bhooth Bangla, a horror-comedy directed by Priyadarshan starring Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, scheduled for April 17. Meanwhile, Farah Khan is expected to begin work on her next directorial project with Shah Rukh Khan later this year.
