Veteran actor Peter Greene, whose chilling portrayals helped define some of Hollywood’s most memorable antagonists, was found dead in his Lower East Side apartment in New York City on Friday, December 12, 2025, his manager confirmed. Greene was 60, and authorities have not yet disclosed a cause of death, though no foul play is suspected.
Greene carved out a distinctive niche in 1990s cinema with his intense, scene-stealing roles. He gained widespread recognition for playing the sadistic security guard Zed in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994) and the ruthless crime boss Dorian Tyrell opposite Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz in The Mask (1994). His ability to inhabit dark, volatile characters made him one of the most memorable character actors of his generation.
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Greene began performing on screen in the early 1990s after a challenging youth and a late start in acting. His early work included roles in Laws of Gravity (1992) and the critically acclaimed indie film Clean, Shaven (1993), where he earned praise for his raw and powerful performance. Over more than three decades, Greene amassed nearly 100 film and television credits.

Beyond his signature villainous turns, Greene appeared in a string of notable films including The Usual Suspects, Blue Streak, and Training Day, and took recurring roles on television shows such as The Black Donnellys, Life on Mars and Chicago P.D. More recently, he appeared in the John Wick prequel series The Continental (2023) and a 2025 episode of Dope Thief. At the time of his passing, he had multiple projects in development, including an upcoming thriller and a documentary narration.

He is survived by his sister and brother, who, along with his many collaborators and admirers, continue to celebrate his enduring contributions to film and television.
