Choreographer Vijay Ganguly Reveals Making of Viral 'Fa9la' Sequence in 'Dhurandhar'
Dhurandhar’s Fa9la song went viral after a one-take shoot, showcasing Akshaye Khanna’s discipline and Vijay Ganguly’s choreography.
Choreographer Vijay Ganguly has revealed the effortless behind-the-scenes story of Dhurandhar's viral "Fa9la" song sequence, particularly Akshaye Khanna's iconic entry and coronation moment, which has taken social media by storm since the film's release on December 5, 2025. In interviews, Ganguly described the scene—featuring Khanna's character stepping out of a car, dancing briefly, and being turbaned—as one of the most spontaneous and quickest shoots on the project.
Ganguly praised Khanna's intense focus and quiet professionalism, noting the actor remained in character throughout, rarely leaving the set. "Once he's in the middle of a take, he's completely in his zone," Ganguly said. Khanna improvised his dance moves after observing background performers, delivering the now-legendary performance in a single take with no rehearsals. The entire sequence wrapped up in under two hours, leaving the team surprised by its eventual massive popularity.
Filmed in Ladakh's challenging high-altitude conditions, the shoot tested the crew's endurance due to low oxygen levels. Ganguly recounted Khanna arriving a day early, completing the song flawlessly, but later experiencing a dip in oxygen saturation. Despite concerns, Khanna returned to set wearing an oxygen mask and cylinder, insisting on finishing his portions without delay—an act Ganguly called "inspirational" for prioritising collective effort.

The choreographer admitted the team never anticipated "Fa9la"'s viral impact, calling it "the most effortless thing we did." He emphasised that its success stemmed from honesty to the story and Khanna's instinctive brilliance, proving some cinematic magic emerges unplanned.
Ganguly also credited family support, particularly sister Rupali Ganguly, for honest feedback on his work, including predicting hits like another Dhurandhar track, "Shararat". As reels and memes of the "Fa9la" moment continue dominating platforms, Ganguly's insights highlight how minimalism and commitment created one of 2025's standout Bollywood sequences in Aditya Dhar's action thriller.
