Meet The Amritsar Pagdi Specialist Who Tied Ranveer Singh's Turban in Dhurandhar 2
Amritsar pagdi specialist Balwinder Singh reveals how he crafted turbans for Dhurandhar's cast.
As Dhurandhar: The Revenge gears up for release, a behind-the-scenes detail grabbing attention is the intricate turban styling that helped shape the film’s authentic look. Pagdi specialist Balwinder Singh, who worked on the film, has shared insights into his journey and experience working with top actors like Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna.
Balwinder Singh, popularly known as Inder, was responsible for tying turbans for several characters in the film, contributing significantly to their distinct on-screen identities. While costume design was handled by Smriti Chauhan, Singh’s work added a layer of cultural authenticity, particularly for characters like Rahman Dakait and Hamza.
Recalling his interaction with Ranveer Singh, Balwinder shared that the actor was highly impressed with his craft. Ranveer even jokingly asked, “Kya mujhe bhi classes mil sakti hain?” — reflecting his curiosity and admiration for the skill involved in tying traditional turbans.

Balwinder’s journey began in Amritsar, where he developed an interest in tying dastaar (pagdi) during visits to a local gurdwara. What started as a one-week learning experience soon turned into a passion, with him practising various styles independently, including Balochistani, Safa, and Rajasthani turbans.
With over 15 years of experience, Balwinder has turned his passion into a specialised craft, now contributing to major film productions. His work on Dhurandhar highlights how even the smallest details — like the way a turban is tied — can enhance storytelling and bring characters closer to reality.
