Bollywood actor Kriti Sanon has responded to the mixed reactions surrounding her latest film, Tere Ishk Mein, which released on November 28. Starring Dhanush in the male lead and directed by Aanand L Rai, the film has sparked discussions among audiences, with some netizens labeling the plot and characters as “toxic.”
In a recent interview, Sanon said she views the debates as a positive outcome, highlighting that the film encourages discussion and reflection. “Toxic and red flag, these terms have become very common now. It is great that it is being discussed. Debate is a great part of it,” she remarked, emphasizing the moral complexity portrayed in the film.
Sanon elaborated on the duality of human behavior depicted in the story. “At the end, a lot of people are feeling like both are right and wrong at some points. Your moral compass is not towards one person, which is great because human beings make mistakes. If your heart is not wrong or you’re not an evil person and you made a mistake, there’s always a reason why you did what you did,” she explained.

Addressing her character Mukti, Kriti described the intense emotional burden she carries in the film, especially her controversial decision to give her child to her husband. “She is destroyed in her own world. Someone who is as empathetic as her and feels and cares so much, imagine the kind of guilt that person would carry. Her guilt was very big,” Sanon said, highlighting the character’s depth and complexity.
The actress emphasized that the reactions are indicative of the film’s impact. By portraying flawed but relatable human beings, the story allows audiences to explore empathy, accountability, and moral ambiguity in everyday choices, sparking conversations that go beyond traditional storytelling.
