Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor has fiercely responded to online trolls who criticized her for chanting "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" at a Dahi Handi event during Janmashtami celebrations in Mumbai on Saturday, August 16. The 28-year-old star faced backlash after a video clip of her chanting the patriotic slogan went viral, prompting her to address the controversy head-on.
The event was part of promotional activities for Kapoor’s upcoming film Param Sundari. In the widely circulated video, Kapoor is seen enthusiastically participating in the festivities, chanting the slogan alongside the crowd. However, the clip was edited and shared as meme material, leading to trolling on social media platforms.
On Sunday, Kapoor took to her Instagram story to share the full, unedited video, providing context to her actions. “If I didn’t repeat it after them, there would have been a problem. And if I do say it, the video gets edited and turned into meme material,” she wrote, highlighting the no-win situation. She further affirmed her stance, stating, “By the way, not just on Janmashtami, I’ll keep saying Bharat Mata Ki Jai every day.”

Kapoor’s upcoming romantic comedy Param Sundari, co-starring Sidharth Malhotra and directed by Tushar Jalota, is set for theatrical release on August 29, produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.
