Deepika Padukone Reunites With Shah Rukh Khan For New Film 'King'

Padukone starts shooting her sixth collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan in 'King'.

Bollywood star Deepika Padukone announced the commencement of shooting for her sixth collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan, titled King, via a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday. The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, who previously helmed their 2023 hit Pathaan, marks another milestone in the duo’s storied partnership, which began with Padukone’s debut in Om Shanti Om (2007). The announcement, accompanied by a nostalgic reflection, has sparked excitement among fans, given the pair’s consistent box-office success.

In her post, Padukone recalled a lesson from Khan during Om Shanti Om filming: prioritizing the filmmaking experience and team camaraderie over commercial outcomes. “That lesson has guided every decision I’ve made since,” she wrote, underscoring why she’s reteamed with Khan for their sixth project after Chennai Express (2013), Happy New Year (2014), Pathaan, and Jawan (2023). The duo’s chemistry, blending Shah Rukh’s charisma with Padukone’s versatility, has grossed over Rs 2,500 crore globally across their past ventures, making King one of 2026’s most anticipated releases.

King also features Suhana Khan, Shah Rukh’s daughter, who debuted in The Archies (2023), adding a familial dimension to the project. Produced under Red Chillies Entertainment, the action-packed thriller promises Anand’s signature high-octane storytelling, building on Pathaan’s success in the YRF Spy Universe. Plot details remain under wraps, but industry buzz suggests a narrative blending emotional depth with spectacle, aligning with Anand’s directorial flair.

The Indian film industry, contributing $2.5 billion annually to the economy, thrives on such star-driven collaborations. As shooting begins, King is poised to leverage the Shah Rukh-Padukone brand, which has historically drawn massive audiences, including the diaspora. With Anand at the helm, the film aims to elevate Bollywood’s global footprint, following 2023’s resurgence when Hindi cinema clocked record theatrical revenues. Padukone’s post, liked by over 1 million fans within hours, signals robust anticipation for this reunion.
