The Hindi film Homebound has been officially selected as India’s entry for the Best International Feature category at the 2026 Academy Awards, announced N Chandra, chairperson of the selection committee, during a press conference in Kolkata on Friday.
Chosen from a competitive pool of 24 films across various Indian languages, Homebound stood out for its compelling narrative. “It was a very difficult choice. These were films that touched the lives of people,” Chandra stated, describing the selection committee’s role as coaches seeking standout cinematic talent. The 12-member committee included producers, directors, writers, editors, and journalists.
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla, Homebound features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. The film tells the moving story of two childhood friends from a small north Indian village pursuing a police job to reclaim the dignity long denied to them.
