Can Sooraj Barjatya Help Salman Khan Bounce Back?

In an interview with PTI in Mumbai, renowned filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya opened up about the challenges of crafting “relevant and fresh” roles for his long-time collaborator, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan. Barjatya has directed Khan in iconic films such as Maine Pyar Kiya (1989), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015).

Barjatya revealed that a planned action film with the 59-year-old star was shelved due to difficulties in developing a fitting character and storyline. “Until the climax and character come together convincingly, it doesn’t make sense to proceed,” Barjatya stated, emphasizing his meticulous approach to filmmaking, having directed only seven films in his career.

Despite Khan’s recent string of underwhelming releases, including Sikandar, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Radhe, Dabangg 3, and Race 3, which failed to resonate with his loyal fan base, Barjatya remains optimistic about the actor’s future. “Everyone should be allowed to make mistakes and learn,” he said, defending Khan’s resilience and character. “He is such a good person and so strong that he is going to come back in a very big way.”

Both Barjatya and Khan are currently engaged in new projects. Barjatya is preparing to direct a family drama featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari, while Khan has begun filming Battle of Galwan, a war drama based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict, directed by Apoorva Lakhia. The film has generated significant anticipation among fans eager to see Khan reclaim his box-office dominance.

Barjatya’s confidence in Khan underscores their enduring creative partnership and the shared commitment to delivering impactful cinema that resonates with audiences.
