Bollywood’s Big UK Return: Yash Raj Films to Film Three Blockbusters Starting 2026
Yash Raj Films to shoot three major movies in the UK from 2026.
During his visit to Yash Raj Films’ Mumbai studio on October 8, 2025, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a landmark partnership, revealing that the renowned production house will shoot three major films across the United Kingdom starting in early 2026. This initiative, marking the studio’s return to the UK after an eight-year hiatus, is set to create over 3,000 jobs and inject millions of pounds into the British economy, reinforcing the UK’s status as a premier global filmmaking destination.
Yash Raj Films, founded by the late Yash Chopra and celebrating 20 years of operations in India on October 12, 2025, has a storied history with the UK, having filmed iconic movies like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) there. CEO Akshaye Widhani highlighted the significance of this renewed collaboration, coinciding with DDLJ’s 30th anniversary and the ongoing UK stage adaptation, Come Fall in Love. He praised the UK’s unmatched infrastructure, technology, and talent, expressing enthusiasm for deepening cultural ties through this venture.
The partnership is further solidified by a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the British Film Institute (BFI) and India’s National Film Development Commission (NFDC). This agreement aims to revitalize co-production, enabling filmmakers from both nations to share resources and talent. Starmer, accompanied by representatives from the BFI, British Film Commission, Pinewood Studios, Elstree Studios, and Civic Studios, emphasized that this collaboration exemplifies the potential of the UK-India trade deal to drive economic growth and cultural exchange.
