Ayushmann-Rashmika Starrer Thamma Earns Rs 78 Crore in Five Days
Thamma collects Rs 78 crore in five days; the horror-comedy heads toward the Rs 100 crore milestone.
Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer Thamma, a horror-comedy directed by Amar Kaushik, has stormed past the Rs 78 crore mark at the domestic box office within five days of its October 21 release. Early estimates indicate the film earned Rs 13 crore on Saturday—its fifth day—maintaining momentum with a 19.72% Hindi occupancy rate. Having opened at Rs 24 crore, Thamma has already outpaced the lifetime collections of Varun Dhawan’s Bhediya (Rs 68.99 crore) and the domestic haul of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (Rs 60.35 crore), positioning it as one of the fastest-growing hits of 2025.
The film follows a man who transforms into a Betal—a vampiric entity from Indian folklore—after a chilling encounter with a mysterious woman, blending supernatural horror with dark humour. Nawazuddin Siddiqui plays a pivotal role in the narrative, which explores the clash between human desires and ancient curses. Produced under Maddock Films, Thamma has benefited from strong word-of-mouth, festive timing during the Dussehra weekend, and aggressive promotional campaigns featuring the lead trio. Its steady weekday performance signals robust audience retention, crucial for crossing the Rs 100 crore milestone in the coming days.
Ayushmann Khurrana, visibly moved by the response, took to social media to express gratitude, stating, “This family has seen a lot in the last few years. My family, my late father, and the audience have blessed Thamma with love.” He hinted at surprise theatre visits in suburban multiplexes to personally thank viewers, reflecting the emotional investment behind his return to commercial success after a string of experimental roles. The actor’s versatile portrayal of the cursed protagonist has been widely praised for balancing vulnerability with comedic timing.

Rashmika Mandanna, making deeper inroads into Hindi cinema, revealed the physical toll of filming despite a severe foot fracture sustained before the song Tum Mere Na Hue. Defying medical advice for three months of bed rest, she resumed promotions within 30 days and completed the schedule. “I was up and moving around for Chhaava promotions for, like, 30 days,” she shared, underscoring her commitment. With Thamma now eyeing the century club, the film reinforces the growing viability of genre-blending horror-comedies in Bollywood, following the success of predecessors like Stree 2 and Munjya.
