Asha Bhosle Laid To Rest In Mumbai With Full State Honours And Ceremonial Tribute

Asha Bhosle was cremated in Mumbai with full state honours as fans and celebrities paid final tribute.

Legendary Singer Asha Bhosle was cremated in Mumbai on Monday, April 13, at the Shivaji Park crematorium with full state honours, according to media reports. The final rites were carried out amid large public gatherings, as fans and well-wishers paid tribute to one of India’s most iconic voices.

The funeral procession began from her residence in Lower Parel and proceeded through parts of the city to the Shivaji Park crematorium in Dadar. The hearse was decorated with white and yellow flowers and carried a large portrait of the singer in traditional Maharashtrian attire. Officials said the ceremonies included a ceremonial police salute as part of the state honours accorded during the last rites.

Several prominent personalities from the film, music, and sports fraternity were said to have attended the funeral to pay their respects. Among those present were cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Anjali Tendulkar, along with music composer A. R. Rahman. Actors and filmmakers including Jackie Shroff, Riteish Deshmukh, Ranveer Singh, Aamir Khan, Rakesh Roshan, and others were also reported to be in attendance.

The singer had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where she was undergoing treatment for multiple health issues. She passed away due to multi-organ failure on Sunday. Asha Bhosle’s final journey drew widespread grief from fans who gathered along the route to bid farewell. Widely regarded as one of the most versatile playback singers in Indian cinema, her contribution to music spanned several decades, with timeless songs across multiple languages and genres that shaped generations of listeners.

Her legacy is closely associated with an extraordinary body of work, including collaborations that became milestones in Indian film music history. As the nation reflects on the loss, tributes continue to pour in, highlighting her influence on the evolution of Indian playback singing and her enduring impact on the cultural landscape.
