Akshay Kumar Pauses Cricket Match, Removes Shoes During Independence Day Celebration

Akshay Kumar paused cricket match before holding national flag.

Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff marked India's 80th Independence Day in Mumbai by pausing a cricket match to participate in a flag-hoisting ceremony. A video circulating on social media showed the actors and others stopping their game to bring out the national flag and celebrate the occasion. Akshay's gesture of removing his shoes before holding the Tricolour drew particular attention online.

According to the video caption, there was no pole at the venue to hoist the flag at a height. Akshay therefore removed his shoes before holding the national flag and stood on a chair with it. Those present, including Tiger Shroff, then sang India's national anthem and saluted the Tricolour as part of the Independence Day celebration.

Akshay also shared an Independence Day message with his fans on social media. He wished for the continued glory of the Tricolour and expressed hope for a better future, ending his message with “Jai Hind”. The actor's participation in the celebration came as people across the country marked the 80th anniversary of India's Independence.

On the work front, Akshay was last seen in the multi-starrer Welcome to the Jungle and has several projects lined up. He will appear in Priyadarshan's Haiwaan alongside Saif Ali Khan and is also associated with the Marathi film Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat. He is additionally set to make a cameo appearance in Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn's Golmaal 5.

Tiger Shroff, meanwhile, was last seen in Baaghi 4. He is set to appear in the action thriller Hitman, directed by Kannada filmmaker Sachin Ravi. He also has Lag Ja Gale in the pipeline, co-starring Janhvi Kapoor and Lakshya. The film is directed by Raj Mehta and produced by Dharma Productions.

The Independence Day celebration provided Akshay and Tiger with an opportunity to combine a sporting activity with the national occasion. The video showed the cricket match being paused as those present gathered for the flag ceremony, with Akshay's decision to remove his shoes before holding the Tricolour becoming the central focus of the social media post.
