Actor Bharat Kapoor Passes Away At 80; Prayer Meet To Be Held In Mumbai
Veteran actor Bharat Kapoor dies at 80; Mumbai prayer meet scheduled April 30.
Veteran Indian actor Bharat Kapoor, known for his extensive work in Hindi cinema and television, passed away on April 27 at the age of 80. A prayer meet in his memory is scheduled to take place on April 30 at the North Indian Association in Mumbai between 5 pm and 7 pm, according to his family.
Bharat reportedly died at his residence after a brief illness. Actor Avtar Gill, a contemporary from the film industry, confirmed the news, stating that Bharat had been unwell for the past few days. He added that Bharat passed away around 3 pm, and the family informed close associates shortly afterward. His last rites were performed later the same evening in the presence of family members and close friends.
Beginning his acting career in 1972, Bharat built a steady presence in the film industry over nearly four decades. Though rarely cast in leading roles, he earned recognition for his strong supporting performances, particularly in antagonist roles, becoming a familiar face in Hindi cinema during the 1970s through the 1990s.

Throughout his career, Bharat appeared in several notable films, including Noorie (1979), Ram Balram (1980), Love Story (1981), Bazaar (1982), Ghulami (1985), Aakhree Raasta (1986), Satyamev Jayate (1987), Swarg (1990), Khuda Gawah (1992), and Rang (1993). His performances were marked by consistency and versatility, allowing him to remain relevant across changing cinematic trends.
In the later years of his career, Bharat continued to appear in films such as Barsaat (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural (1996), and Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (2004). Beyond the big screen, he also made a significant mark on Indian television, featuring in popular serials including Parampara, Rahat, Saans, Amanat, Tara, Chunauti, and Kahani Chandrakanta Ki.
Bharat’s contribution to Indian entertainment, particularly as a dependable character actor, has been widely acknowledged by peers and audiences alike. His passing marks the end of an era for a generation of performers who defined supporting roles in mainstream Hindi cinema.
