Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s Comment On Neha Kakkar’s Fee Demand Gains Attention

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has reignited his long-running disagreement with fellow singer Neha Kakkar, criticising what he described as excessive performance fee demands and questioning the practice of publicly quoting high appearance charges. Speaking in a recent YouTube interview, Abhijeet said that claiming to charge ₹1 crore for performances creates an artificial market and places unnecessary pressure on event organisers. During a conversation with YouTuber Subhojit Ghosh, Abhijeet revisited the debate over Bollywood singers performing at weddings, an issue that had previously led to a public exchange between him and Neha Kakkar during a reality show in 2024.

While he avoided directly naming Neha for much of the interview, he praised her singing ability before questioning the need to publicise high performance fees. Referring to reports about singers charging premium amounts for live performances, Abhijeet remarked, “Now how can I say that I charge ₹5 crore, ₹10 crore or ₹50 lakh? By saying this, you create a market.” He added that marketing is important for artists but argued it should be done in a more balanced manner without focusing on inflated fee claims. The veteran playback singer also explained why he generally avoids performing at private weddings. According to him, people hosting lavish weddings often invite singers who command the highest fees, but he prefers audiences to attend his concerts instead.

“People spend a lot of money on weddings. They call whichever singer charges more. But they can't call me. They cannot see me singing at weddings. To hear me, they have to come to my concerts,” he said. Abhijeet further claimed that event organisers often bear the financial burden of accommodating artists' demands. Without naming anyone specifically, he alleged that some performers and their management teams insist on expensive hospitality arrangements, premium accommodation and other requirements that significantly increase the cost of organising events.

He said organisers sometimes end up paying large bills for hotels, food and other logistical arrangements, adding that he personally tries to minimise expenses for those hosting his shows. According to Abhijeet, organisers should not have to incur unnecessary losses because of excessive demands from performers or their teams. The remarks have gone viral on social media, with users sharing clips from the interview and debating the issue of celebrity performance fees. While some supported Abhijeet's views on keeping costs reasonable for organisers, others argued that artists are free to determine their market value based on demand and popularity.

The comments also revived memories of Abhijeet's earlier disagreement with Neha Kakkar over whether established playback singers should perform at weddings. The debate had attracted significant attention at the time, with fans expressing differing opinions on the role of commercial performances in a singer's career. Neither Neha Kakkar nor her representatives have publicly responded to Abhijeet Bhattacharya's latest remarks. As the clips continue to circulate online, the discussion has once again highlighted differing perspectives within the music industry on performance fees, celebrity branding and live event culture.
