Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots Makers Clarify On Reported Re-Release Plans
3 Idiots makers deny reports of film re-release.
The makers of the popular Bollywood film 3 Idiots have dismissed reports claiming that the movie will be re-released in theatres on Teachers’ Day, calling the reports “false and factually incorrect.” The clarification was issued by Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films through its official social media channels, asking fans and media outlets to rely only on verified announcements from the production house.
The reports about a possible theatrical re-release of 3 Idiots had been circulating for several days, suggesting that the 2009 blockbuster would return to cinemas on September 4. However, the production banner, which backed the film, stated that no such re-release has been announced and urged people not to believe unverified information.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, 3 Idiots remains one of the most successful Hindi films of its time. The movie starred Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi and explored themes of friendship, academic pressure and the challenges faced by students in India’s education system.

Meanwhile, speculation about a sequel to the film continues to attract attention among fans. Actor Aamir Khan recently confirmed that work on 3 Idiots 2 is underway, with Rajkumar Hirani expected to return as director. He said the story has been developed carefully and described the script as a strong and unusual continuation of the original film.
Aamir said the sequel will follow the same characters from the first movie after a gap of several years. He praised Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi for their work on the concept, adding that while the script still requires further refinement, the story maintains the humour and emotional connection associated with the original film.
Released in 2009, 3 Idiots was based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone and followed the journey of three friends during their years at an engineering institute and beyond. The film became a cultural landmark, receiving widespread acclaim for its performances, storytelling and message about education and personal ambition.
