Volvo EX30 Becomes More Accessible With New Base Variant

A new base variant expands the premium compact EV lineup.

Volvo Cars has introduced a new entry-level trim for the Volvo EX30 electric SUV, expanding the model’s appeal in the premium compact EV segment. The update brings a smaller battery option, refreshed interior choices, and added functionality aimed at improving overall usability.

The biggest change is the introduction of a 51 kWh battery pack, which joins the existing 69 kWh unit in the EX30 lineup. The new battery is expected to make the electric SUV more accessible to buyers looking for a relatively affordable urban EV, while the larger pack continues to cater to customers prioritising longer driving range.

Volvo said the move is part of its strategy to widen the EX30’s market reach. The smaller battery variant is suited primarily for city-focused usage, whereas the 69 kWh version remains the preferred choice for extended highway travel and higher range requirements.

Alongside the new powertrain option, the company has also refined the cabin with updated interior material selections. The EX30 continues to emphasise its minimalist Scandinavian design theme, supported by a digital-first user interface.

The electric SUV now also benefits from Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing users to power external devices directly from the vehicle. Additionally, over-the-air (OTA) software updates remain part of the package, enabling continuous feature improvements without requiring dealership visits.

With these updates, Volvo aims to strengthen the EX30’s competitiveness in the fast-growing compact luxury EV space by offering greater flexibility in pricing, range, and everyday practicality.
