Tata Punch EV Facelift Delivers 468 Km Range and Lower Pricing With Meaningful Upgrades

The 2026 Tata Punch EV facelift brings a larger LFP battery and lower pricing with select feature cuts.

Tata Motors has unveiled the facelifted version of its popular Punch EV, bringing meaningful updates in battery technology, powertrain efficiency, and pricing. The Punch EV facelift aims to strengthen the electric SUV’s position in the highly competitive sub-Rs 12 lakh EV segment, where range, performance, and features are crucial to consumer choice. The model update was recently reviewed in Kochi, highlighting how the changes affect real-world usability and ownership experience.

One of the major updates in the facelift is the adoption of a larger LFP battery with a prismatic cell structure, replacing the previous cylindrical design. This allows more cells to be packed in the same space, increasing energy density. The new battery capacities are 35 kWh and 40 kWh, up from 25 kWh and 30 kWh in earlier models. Tata Motors claims a range of 468 km for the Long Range variant, with practical usage estimated at around 355 km, while the Medium Range variant offers a claimed range of 355 km and roughly 260 km in real-world driving. Fast-charging performance has also improved, supporting speeds up to 65 kW.

The facelifted Punch EV also features a revised 6-in-1 powertrain, integrating the electric motor, transmission, electronic control units, onboard charger, and DC/DC converter into a compact module. This reduces the number of semiconductors and overall components, cutting weight and improving energy efficiency. These mechanical updates allow for a more efficient drive while keeping power output at 129 hp for the 40 kWh variant, although torque sees a slight reduction.

To achieve a more competitive pricing strategy, Tata Motors has streamlined the Punch EV’s feature set. Rear disc brakes have been replaced with drum brakes, certain variants have been discontinued, and features such as ambient lighting and the connected front light strip have been removed. These changes allow the Punch EV to be priced between Rs 9.69 lakh and Rs 12.59 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more accessible to buyers entering the EV segment.

On the road, the Punch EV facelift delivers a confident and reassuring driving experience. Visibility is good for a compact SUV, though the thicker A-pillars create minor blind spots, mitigated by a 360-degree camera. Ride quality remains one of the segment’s best, while handling is average with noticeable body roll under aggressive cornering. Acceleration is brisk, with a 0–100 km/h time of about nine seconds, and regenerative braking is offered in three levels, remaining mild even at its strongest setting.

Overall, the 2026 Tata Punch EV facelift represents a thoughtful balance of range improvements, efficient powertrain design, and cost optimisation. While it omits certain premium features, the updates reinforce Tata Motors’ strategy to make EV ownership more practical and appealing to buyers in the sub-Rs 12 lakh segment. For first-time EV buyers, the facelifted Punch EV continues to be a strong contender, combining affordability, performance, and usability.
