Skoda Superb Diesel Returns to India: Launch Set For 2027

Skoda's fourth-gen Superb returns to India with diesel engine, 2027 launch.

Skoda is bringing the fourth-generation Superb back to the Indian market, with the flagship sedan set to return in the first half of 2027. The biggest highlight is the comeback of a Skoda TDI diesel engine in India after a gap of six years. The new Superb will initially arrive as a completely built-up unit and will be offered in the range-topping Laurin & Klement trim. Skoda is also evaluating local assembly depending on customer response.

The India-spec Superb will use a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 150bhp and 360Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox and front-wheel drive. Skoda claims the sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100kmph in 9.2 seconds, while its electronically limited top speed is 225kmph. This configuration differs from the 193hp diesel and all-wheel-drive version showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.

The new Superb retains the understated design associated with the nameplate while adopting a sharper and more modern appearance. It measures 4,912mm in length, 1,849mm in width and 1,511mm in height, with a 2,841mm wheelbase. The exterior gets Matrix LED headlights, chrome detailing, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and wraparound LED tail-lights. Progressive Dynamic Steering and Dynamic Chassis Control are also part of the package, allowing the driving characteristics to be adjusted according to road and driving conditions.

Inside, the sedan gets a premium black-and-Cognac cabin with extensive soft-touch materials and additional insulation. Features include a 12.9-inch touchscreen, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and Skoda’s Smart Dials. Front occupants get electrically adjustable seats with heating, ventilation, massage and memory functions, while rear passengers receive separate climate control and sunblinds. Other equipment includes a 14-speaker Canton audio system, wireless charging, a powered tailgate, a 360-degree camera and automated parking assistance.

Safety and driver-assistance features include 10 airbags, Level 2 ADAS, electronic parking brake and tyre-pressure monitoring. Interestingly, the India-spec model will not receive a sunroof despite its extensive equipment list. Skoda is expected to price the Superb between Rs 55 lakh and Rs 60 lakh, ex-showroom, placing it firmly in the premium executive sedan segment. Registrations of interest have already opened at dealerships, with deliveries expected in the second quarter of 2027.

The Superb’s diesel comeback could have implications beyond the sedan itself. Skoda has indicated that customer response may influence its plans for other diesel models, including the possibility of bringing a diesel-powered Kodiaq back to India. If successful, the Superb could therefore become an important test for renewed demand for diesel-powered premium cars in the country.
