MG Hector Tomahawk to Debut August 26 With Over 500km Range

JSW MG Motor India is preparing to unveil its new three-row electric SUV on August 26, expanding its presence in the premium electric vehicle segment. The model is expected to be positioned above the Hector and is likely to be called the MG Hector Tomahawk, although the company has not officially confirmed the production name. The SUV will be the first MG model in India to use the company’s ADAPT architecture, which has been developed to support different powertrain options. MG has also trademarked the Hector Tomahawk name in India, strengthening speculation about the vehicle’s final identity.

The upcoming SUV has already been spotted in production-ready form without camouflage, revealing a large and upright design focused on providing generous cabin space. At the front, it features slim horizontal LED daytime running lights with the MG badge placed between them, while the primary headlamps are positioned lower on the bumper. The SUV also gets a closed-off upper section, a large lower air intake and prominent black cladding. Its side profile features large alloy wheels, roof rails and conventional door handles, while the long wheelbase and extended rear overhang help accommodate the three-row seating arrangement.

At the rear, the electric SUV is expected to feature slim horizontal LED tail-lamps extending towards the sides, along with a large glasshouse and a prominent D-pillar. Inside, earlier teasers have indicated a beige-themed cabin with a minimalist dashboard and a digital display setup. Expected equipment includes a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, powered and ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate and wireless charging. The SUV is also likely to offer dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated vents for all three rows, a 360-degree camera and an advanced driver assistance system.

MG has confirmed that the new SUV will have three rows of seats, making it one of the largest electric models in the company’s Indian portfolio. The India-spec battery and motor specifications have not yet been announced. However, the SUV is expected to share its underlying technology with the Wuling Starlight 560, which uses a 69.2kWh LFP battery and a front-mounted electric motor producing around 204bhp and 310Nm. The global model has a claimed CLTC range of up to 530km, suggesting that the India-spec version could deliver a claimed range of more than 500km.

The final battery capacity, motor output, charging specifications and officially certified driving range are expected to be revealed around the launch. The SUV is likely to be priced between ₹20 lakh and ₹25 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it above the Hector in MG’s India line-up. With its three-row configuration and electric powertrain, the model is expected to compete with upcoming electric SUVs such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV. MG could also introduce a plug-in hybrid version at a later stage, taking advantage of the flexibility of its ADAPT platform.

The Hector Tomahawk is expected to become an important addition to MG’s electric vehicle portfolio as demand for larger premium EVs grows in India. Its combination of three-row seating, a feature-rich cabin and an expected range of more than 500km could give it a strong position in the expanding electric SUV market. More details about its specifications, pricing, variants and official name are expected to emerge when MG unveils the SUV on August 26.
