MG Hector Hawk PHEV Expected to Launch In India on August 26

JSW MG Motor is preparing to introduce a new SUV in India, expected to be called the MG Hector Hawk, with the launch likely to take place on August 26, 2026. The upcoming model is expected to combine the brand’s SUV-focused design with electrification and could be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. While MG has not yet confirmed the final name, specifications or pricing, the Hector Hawk is expected to become an important addition to the company’s Indian portfolio.

The SUV is based on the Wuling Starlight 560 sold in international markets and is expected to become the first production model based on MG’s new ADAPT architecture. The flexible platform has been designed to accommodate different types of powertrains, including pure electric, strong hybrid, plug-in hybrid and range-extender configurations. For India, the Hector Hawk is expected to use a plug-in hybrid setup combining a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery.

International specifications indicate a combined output of around 197 hp and 230 Nm. The plug-in hybrid version is expected to offer an electric-only range of up to 125 km, while its overall range could reach around 1,100 km when both the petrol engine and electric power are utilised. These figures are based on overseas specifications and could differ for the India-specification model once MG officially announces its technical details.

In terms of size, the upcoming SUV is expected to measure 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,770 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. Its larger dimensions compared with the Hector Plus are expected to make room for a three-row, seven-seat layout. The exterior design is likely to feature slim daytime-running lights, rectangular headlamps, squared wheel arches and an upright rear profile, although MG could introduce India-specific changes to the grille, bumpers, lighting and badging.

The cabin is expected to receive several technology and comfort-focused features. The international version gets an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch central touchscreen. Expected equipment for India could include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless charging, automatic climate control, rear air-conditioning vents, a 360-degree camera and advanced driver assistance systems. The exact feature list and variant-wise equipment will be confirmed closer to the launch.

The MG Hector Hawk is expected to be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 27 lakh, ex-showroom, although the final price could vary depending on localisation, equipment levels and MG’s Battery-as-a-Service strategy. In the Indian market, the SUV could compete with models such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari in its plug-in hybrid form, while an electric version could take on the Mahindra XEV 9S. With its seven-seat layout, long overall range and flexible electrified powertrain, the Hector Hawk is expected to strengthen MG’s presence in India’s growing SUV segment.
