Maruti's Electric MPV, Fronx Facelift Among Launches Expected in 6-12 Months

Maruti Suzuki is preparing several new and updated models for the Indian market over the next six to 12 months as it seeks to expand its presence in electric mobility, compact crossovers and premium hatchbacks. The expected launches include an electric multi-purpose vehicle, a refreshed Fronx and a new-generation Baleno, although several specifications remain unofficial.

Maruti’s first all-electric MPV is reportedly being developed under the internal codename YMC and could reach the market in 2027. Expected to follow the e-Vitara, the three-row model may use Suzuki’s Heartect-e electric platform and offer battery capacities ranging from approximately 50kWh to 60kWh.

With the larger battery, the MPV could offer a claimed driving range of about 500 kilometres. Expected equipment includes a large touchscreen, connected-car functions, wireless smartphone integration and Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems on higher variants. Its estimated starting price of ₹16 lakh to ₹18 lakh has not been confirmed by Maruti Suzuki.

The updated Maruti Fronx is reportedly scheduled to debut on September 5, 2026. It may introduce Suzuki’s in-house strong-hybrid system paired with the familiar 1.2-litre Z-Series petrol engine, while the existing 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol could continue. The manufacturer has not officially confirmed the final engine and transmission combinations.

Expected upgrades for the Fronx include a larger infotainment display, a 360-degree camera, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated seats and wider availability of six airbags. The strong-hybrid option, if introduced, is expected to prioritise fuel efficiency and could become one of the most significant mechanical changes made to the crossover.

The next-generation Baleno is expected to arrive during 2027 with substantial exterior and interior revisions. Reports suggest a redesigned dashboard, larger touchscreen, fully digital instrument cluster, panoramic camera system and expanded driver-assistance technology on higher trims. Its powertrain lineup could resemble that of the updated Fronx, but Maruti has not officially announced the launch timing, specifications or prices.
