Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 to Launch In September, Priced Under Rs 2.5 Lakh

Royal Enfield is preparing to expand its adventure motorcycle range with the Himalayan 440, which is expected to launch in the first week of September 2026. The arrival may seem unusual because the company already sells the Himalayan 450, but the new motorcycle is expected to target a different section of the market rather than directly compete with its larger sibling.

The Himalayan 450, launched in 2023, moved the nameplate into a more premium and technologically advanced segment. It features a liquid-cooled engine, ride-by-wire throttle, TFT instrumentation and electronic rider aids. While the motorcycle delivered a significant improvement in performance, it also moved away from the simpler and more affordable character associated with the earlier Himalayan 411.

The Himalayan 440 is expected to fill that gap. Positioned as an entry-level adventure tourer, it is likely to sit between the Scram 440 and Himalayan 450 in Royal Enfield's line-up. The motorcycle is expected to share the Scram 440's 443cc LS440 engine, which produces 25.4bhp and 34Nm and is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The setup could prioritise ease of use, reliability and everyday practicality over outright performance.

The upcoming motorcycle is also expected to retain key adventure-focused hardware, including 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, long-travel suspension, an upright riding position and dual-channel ABS with switchable rear ABS. These features could make it suitable for touring and moderate off-road riding while keeping the overall package simpler than the Himalayan 450.

Royal Enfield could therefore avoid reducing the price of the Himalayan 450 by developing a separate motorcycle around a simpler architecture. The Himalayan 440 is expected to carry a more rugged and functional design inspired by the original Himalayan 411, while its estimated price of Rs 2.20 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh (ex-showroom) would position it below the Himalayan 450. This would give the company a broader range of adventure motorcycles at different price points.

The launch also comes as the Himalayan nameplate marks a decade in 2026, with the Himalayan 440 expected to debut around Royal Enfield's Himalayan Base Camp event in Ladakh. The new model could represent a return to the original Himalayan's core philosophy: a straightforward, capable and accessible motorcycle designed for both everyday riding and exploration beyond paved roads. In that sense, the Himalayan 440 is less a rival to the 450 and more a revival of the formula that made the Himalayan 411 popular.
