YouTube Users Report Picture-In-Picture Issues On iOS And Android Devices

YouTube PiP feature faces playback issues across smartphones.

YouTube has acknowledged an ongoing issue affecting its Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature on both iPhone and Android devices, where some users are unable to activate the floating video window after exiting the app. Instead of continuing playback in a small window, affected users are only hearing audio in the background while the video player fails to appear.

The Google-owned video platform said in an official update that some users are “experiencing issues with the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature failing to trigger when exiting the YouTube app.” The company said its technical teams are investigating the problem but has not yet provided a timeline for a fix.

According to YouTube, the issue has been reported on both Android and iOS devices, but a majority of complaints are coming from iPhone users. The company said the volume of reports from Android users is significantly lower compared with those from Apple devices.

The Picture-in-Picture feature allows users to continue watching YouTube videos while using other applications. By swiping up or pressing the home button while a video is playing, users can normally minimize the app and view the content through a movable floating window on their device screen.

YouTube introduced PiP support several years ago, giving users greater flexibility while multitasking on smartphones. The feature’s availability has varied by region and subscription status in the past, but it has gradually expanded to more users across Android and iOS platforms.

Users facing problems with PiP can check their YouTube app and device settings to ensure the feature is enabled. The option can be managed by opening YouTube, going to Settings, selecting Playback and switching Picture-in-Picture on or off. Users can also avoid triggering the issue by stopping or pausing videos before leaving the app until an official fix is released.
