Next-Gen AirTag Unveiled: 50% Farther Precision Finding and Louder Speaker
Apple's new AirTag offers longer range, louder speaker and enhanced Precision Finding.
Apple on Monday unveiled the next generation of its popular tracking device, AirTag, introducing longer-range tracking, a louder built-in speaker, and enhanced Precision Finding capabilities. The updated AirTag is designed to make locating misplaced personal items easier, even from greater distances, by leveraging improved hardware and the strength of Apple’s Find My network.
According to Apple, the second-generation AirTag is powered by its new Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip, the same technology used in the latest iPhone and Apple Watch models. This upgrade allows Precision Finding to work up to 50% farther than before, guiding users with clearer visual, haptic, and audio cues when searching for lost items such as keys, wallets, or bags.
A key improvement in the new AirTag is its extended Bluetooth range, which increases the distance at which the device can be detected. Apple said this enhancement will help users locate items even when they are farther away. For the first time, Precision Finding is also supported on Apple Watch Series 9 and later, as well as Apple Watch Ultra 2, allowing users to track their belongings directly from their wrist.

Apple has also redesigned the AirTag’s internal speaker, making it 50% louder than the previous version. The company said the louder sound can be heard from nearly twice the distance, helping users quickly pinpoint items that may be hidden in hard-to-reach places, such as under furniture or inside bags.
The new AirTag continues to emphasize privacy, with Apple reiterating that location data is end-to-end encrypted and never stored on the device itself. The tracker also integrates with the Share Item Location feature on iOS, enabling users to temporarily share an item’s location with trusted third parties, including airlines, to assist in recovering delayed or lost luggage.
Apple highlighted its sustainability efforts with the updated AirTag, noting that the device uses 85% recycled plastic, 100% recycled rare earth elements in its magnets, and recycled gold in its circuit boards. The packaging is fully fiber-based and recyclable. The new AirTag is priced at $29 (approximately ₹2,650) for a single unit, while a pack of four is available for $99 (around ₹9,000).
