New Foldable Phone Brings Advanced Camera Features To India’s Smartphone Market
Foldable smartphone brings improved camera capabilities to India.
Foldable smartphones have long been praised for their innovative designs, flexible displays, and multitasking capabilities, but camera performance has often remained a major concern for buyers. However, the latest generation of foldable devices is challenging that perception by bringing larger sensors, advanced zoom systems, AI-powered photography features, and flagship-level video capabilities to the category.
For years, camera systems were considered the biggest compromise in foldable phones because manufacturers had to balance complex hinge mechanisms, batteries, cooling systems, and internal components within limited space. As a result, early foldables focused more on design and productivity features, while photography performance remained behind traditional premium smartphones.
That trend is changing as manufacturers increasingly treat foldables as complete flagship devices rather than experimental designs. Newer models are incorporating larger camera sensors, dedicated telephoto lenses, improved computational photography, and advanced video recording features. The Motorola Razr Fold represents this shift, achieving a DXOMARK camera score of 164 and receiving Gold Label certification for its imaging capabilities.

One of the biggest improvements in modern foldable cameras is the introduction of stronger zoom systems, including periscope telephoto technology. Unlike digital zoom, which relies on cropping images and can reduce quality, periscope cameras use folded optical designs to provide greater magnification while maintaining a slim profile. This allows users to capture portraits, travel images, and distant subjects with improved detail.
The Motorola Razr Fold features a triple 50MP rear camera setup built around Sony LYTIA sensors. Its primary camera includes a 50MP Sony LYTIA 828 sensor with optical image stabilisation, while the periscope camera offers a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 sensor with 3x optical zoom and up to 100x AI Super Zoom Pro. The device also includes a 50MP ultrawide camera with macro capabilities.
Beyond photography, video recording has become a major focus for premium foldables. The Razr Fold supports up to 8K Dolby Vision recording and 4K Dolby Vision video at up to 60fps across all rear cameras. Features such as adaptive stabilisation, audio zoom, horizon lock, and long exposure modes are aimed at users who create videos, social media content, or professional-style recordings.
Foldable designs also offer unique advantages for photography. The Motorola Razr Fold allows users to capture selfies using the rear camera system while using the external display as a live preview screen. Features such as External Display Preview, Dual Capture, Frame Match, and Air Gesture Controls provide additional flexibility compared with conventional smartphones.
The company has also focused on colour accuracy through Pantone Validated Camera and Pantone SkinTone Validation technologies. These features are designed to improve natural colour reproduction and skin-tone accuracy across different lighting conditions, while AI-based image processing helps optimise exposure, white balance, and overall image quality.
Foldable phones are also expanding their role beyond photography through flexible usage modes. Features such as Tent Mode and Laptop Mode allow users to place the device independently for video calls, hands-free recording, time-lapse photography, and content creation. Combined with large internal displays and multitasking tools, these capabilities make foldables useful for both entertainment and productivity.
The evolution of foldable cameras shows that the category is moving away from its earlier reputation of compromise. With improvements in sensors, zoom technology, video recording, and computational photography, modern foldables are increasingly competing with traditional flagship smartphones in imaging performance. Devices like the Motorola Razr Fold highlight how foldable phones are becoming not just innovative designs, but complete premium smartphones where camera quality is a key selling point.
