MWC 2026 Showcases Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Next-Gen Foldables
Major brands unveil flagship smartphones and foldables ahead of MWC 2026 opening.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 officially opened in Barcelona on March 2 and will run through March 5, with major technology companies already unveiling a wave of new devices. Early announcements from Xiaomi, Lenovo, Honour, and Motorola highlighted advancements in foldables, gaming handhelds, and flagship smartphones. The annual trade show is widely regarded as one of the most important global platforms for the mobile industry. It brings together manufacturers, developers, and telecom firms from across the world. Even before the official opening, brands moved quickly to showcase their latest innovations.
Xiaomi introduced its new Xiaomi 17 series, comprising the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, both powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The launch reinforces Xiaomi’s push in the high-end smartphone segment. Camera performance and display quality remain key differentiators in the premium category. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra features a large 6.9-inch 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display. The standard Xiaomi 17 offers a more compact 6.3-inch 1.5K OLED panel.
In terms of optics, the Xiaomi 17 includes a triple 50MP camera setup covering primary, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses. The Ultra model further enhances zoom capabilities with a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. This upgrade reflects the growing industry focus on advanced mobile photography. Long-range zoom and computational imaging continue to drive flagship innovation. Analysts expect the camera battle among smartphone makers to intensify further this year.

Lenovo, meanwhile, previewed the Legion Go Fold gaming handheld, signalling continued innovation in portable gaming hardware. Motorola also teased its Razr Fold lineup, expanding its foldable smartphone portfolio. Honour drew attention with its concept, “robot phone". The concept highlights the industry’s push toward AI-driven and adaptive mobile experiences. Companies are increasingly blending hardware with intelligent software capabilities.
With several days of MWC 2026 still remaining, analysts expect more announcements and deeper technical disclosures from participating brands. The event traditionally sets the tone for smartphone launches throughout the year. Competition in the premium and foldable segments is expected to remain intense. Companies are focusing heavily on AI, cameras, and new form factors. The coming days of the show are likely to reveal further innovations shaping the mobile industry.
