iPhone 18 Pro Max Component Cost May Rise by $300: Report
iPhone 18 Pro Max component costs may rise by $300.
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro Max could cost significantly more to manufacture than its predecessor, with the component cost of the highest-storage model potentially rising by nearly $300. The upcoming flagship is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra at Apple’s September event, although the company has not officially confirmed the devices or their launch date.
According to a bill of materials estimate from Counterpoint Research, the component cost of the 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max could approach $900, compared with about $550 for the equivalent iPhone 17 Pro Max. The sharp increase is reportedly being driven mainly by higher memory prices, with NAND storage accounting for the largest rise, followed by DRAM.
Another major contributor to the higher manufacturing cost could be Apple’s expected A20 Pro chipset. The processor is reportedly set to become the company’s first 2nm flagship mobile chip and could power both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Advanced fabrication and semiconductor packaging processes are expected to make it more expensive than the A19 Pro used in the previous generation.

Camera component costs are also expected to rise modestly, although lower prices for displays and several other parts could partially offset the overall increase. Apple may avoid passing the full additional cost to customers across every storage option and could instead introduce different price increases for individual storage variants to protect profit margins.
Even if Apple raises the average retail price of the iPhone 18 Pro Max by around $200, Counterpoint Research reportedly estimates that the device could still generate slightly lower gross margins than its predecessor. A separate forecast by IDC has suggested that the iPhone 18 lineup could become Apple’s most expensive smartphone series to date, with the Pro models potentially receiving price increases of up to $200.
Based on current estimates, the iPhone 18 Pro could start between $1,249 and $1,299, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max may be priced between $1,349 and $1,399. Apple is widely expected to unveil its new flagship lineup in September 2026, with September 8 considered a possible launch date, though official pricing, specifications and availability details remain unconfirmed.
