Google Fitbit Air Appears on BIS Certification, Signals Upcoming India Availability

Google Fitbit Air fitness tracker nears India launch after BIS certification spotted.

Google is preparing to expand its wearable portfolio in India with the upcoming launch of the Fitbit Air fitness tracker, which has recently appeared on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification database. The listing, under model number GW968, indicates that the device is ready for entry into the Indian market, although Google has not yet confirmed an official launch date or pricing details for the country.

The Fitbit Air was unveiled globally last month and is currently available for pre-order in the United States at a starting price of $99.99. It is positioned as Google’s first screenless fitness tracker and also its thinnest wearable to date, reflecting a shift toward minimalist, continuous health-monitoring devices that rely heavily on smartphone integration for data display and control.

Unlike traditional smartwatches, the Fitbit Air does not feature a built-in display. Instead, it focuses entirely on passive health tracking, offering continuous monitoring of heart rate, heart rhythm, blood oxygen levels, resting heart rate, heart rate variability and sleep patterns. It also includes atrial fibrillation detection, expanding its utility as a health-focused wearable.

The device is designed to automatically detect and log physical activities without requiring manual input from the user. It can also be paired with Google’s Health app, which acts as the primary interface for viewing insights, tracking progress and analysing fitness data. Users can additionally initiate workouts through the app or access guided coaching features for structured fitness routines.

Google has also integrated AI-driven tools into the ecosystem, including features that allow users to enhance workout tracking and receive personalised recommendations. The Fitbit Air is further supported by a battery life of up to one week on a single charge, making it suitable for continuous wear without frequent recharging.

With BIS certification now completed, the Fitbit Air is widely expected to launch in India in the coming months. The certification is a mandatory regulatory step for electronic devices before commercial availability in the country, suggesting that Google is preparing to expand its wearable ecosystem in one of its key growth markets.
