BSNL introduces satellite phone service with Inmarsat connectivity.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched a satellite phone service in India using Inmarsat connectivity, aimed at providing communication access in areas where traditional mobile networks are unavailable. The handset is designed for users in sectors such as defence, maritime operations, disaster management, mining, remote infrastructure projects, and adventure travel.

BSNL said the satellite phone supports voice calls and SMS services through satellite connectivity, allowing users to stay connected in remote locations. The device includes features such as an SOS emergency support system, rugged construction, and a long-lasting battery designed for use in challenging environments.

The company has priced the BSNL Satellite Phone at Rs 1,34,166, including all applicable taxes. BSNL said interested customers can get further details by visiting nearby BSNL offices or contacting the company’s dedicated customer support channels.

The handset operates through Inmarsat satellite technology and is intended to provide reliable communication beyond the coverage limits of conventional telecom networks. BSNL highlighted that the service can support critical operations where uninterrupted connectivity is required, including emergency response situations and field operations in isolated regions.

BSNL has been offering its Global Satellite Phone Service to government agencies, private enterprises, and other authorised users since January 1, 2018. According to reports, users are required to complete verification procedures similar to mobile connections and provide details about the location, duration, and purpose of satellite phone usage. Communications through the service are encrypted.

The company also provides dedicated prepaid and postpaid satellite service plans for government and commercial users. Earlier reported tariff structures included multiple postpaid options and prepaid plans based on user categories, along with additional top-up vouchers. With the latest handset launch, BSNL aims to expand satellite-based communication access for sectors that require dependable connectivity in remote and difficult conditions.
