Apple Reportedly Working On Two Game Controllers For iPhone Under Beats
Apple reportedly explores Beats-branded controllers for iPhone gaming.
Apple is reportedly developing two game controllers aimed at iPhone users, with the accessories expected to be launched under the Beats brand. The controllers were identified through references in Apple's software that reportedly reveal details about their controls, connectivity and haptic systems. Apple has not officially confirmed the products, leaving their design, pricing and launch timeline unclear.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple has been working on the controllers for more than a year and intends to target the growing mobile gaming market. Gurman reported that the accessories are likely to carry Beats branding, with executives from the audio-focused subsidiary involved in their development. If launched, the controllers would mark a notable expansion of the Beats brand beyond its established headphones and audio products.
The two devices have reportedly been identified by the codenames T6502 and T1057. References to both were found in the macOS 26.7 release candidate earlier this month, according to reports. The software references indicated that the controllers could have different approaches to motion sensing and haptic feedback. Both devices are said to include a D-pad, two thumbsticks, shoulder buttons, analogue triggers and dedicated Home and Menu buttons.

The T1057 reportedly includes an accelerometer and gyroscope, which would allow it to detect motion-based input. The T6502, meanwhile, is said to lack motion sensors. Dedicated hardware plug-ins found in the software for both devices have raised the possibility that they are genuine products rather than simple placeholder references. However, the hardware could also have been used internally by Apple while testing game-controller support.
Apple currently supports a range of third-party controllers, including gamepads from Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo, rather than selling a first-party gaming controller of its own. The reported development of Beats-branded controllers could therefore represent a new direction for Apple's gaming accessories strategy. The references to the two devices were reportedly removed from the second macOS 26.7 release candidate, adding uncertainty over whether and when they could reach consumers.
For now, Apple has not announced either controller, and key details including their final appearance, compatibility, pricing and release date remain unknown. The reports come as Apple continues to expand its gaming capabilities across its hardware ecosystem. Whether the two devices become commercial products or remain part of Apple's internal testing efforts is expected to become clearer if the company formally announces its plans.
