iPhone Flip on the Horizon: Apple Plans Clamshell Model Post-iPhone Fold Launch

Apple is reportedly exploring a clamshell-style foldable iPhone, dubbed the iPhone Flip, which could follow the launch of its first foldable, the iPhone Fold, later this year. According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the company is considering a smaller, compact form factor aimed at customers seeking alternatives to the standard foldable design.

The iPhone Flip is expected to feature a square, clamshell-style design, similar to competitors like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Motorola Razr 60 Ultra. While Apple has not officially confirmed the device, Gurman suggests it would launch after the iPhone Fold, likely in the second half of 2026, depending on demand and development progress.

Apple is reportedly assessing the market for foldable phones following the anticipated success of the iPhone Fold. The company aims to cater to diverse consumer preferences, similar to its strategy with multiple iPhone sizes in the past. Alongside the Flip, Apple could also introduce a larger, book-style foldable iPhone, expanding its foldable lineup beyond the first model.

Leaks suggest that the iPhone Fold will feature a 5.5-inch outer display, minimal hinge creasing, dual rear cameras, and dual front cameras, powered by the A20 Pro chipset on a 2nm fabrication node. Networking capabilities are expected via Apple’s C2 modem, with Touch ID integrated into the power button for security.

While the iPhone Flip remains far from guaranteed, analysts believe Apple is positioning itself to capitalize on the growing foldable smartphone market, offering consumers both compact and larger foldable options within its premium ecosystem.
