J&K Police Arrest Three Publishers Over Extremist-Glorifying Book
Publishers arrested for book allegedly glorifying terrorists, separatists.
The Counter Intelligence Wing of Jammu (CIJ) has arrested three publishers in connection with the publication and circulation of a book titled *Legends and Personalities of Jammu and Kashmir*, which investigators allege glorifies terrorists and separatists while presenting extremist ideology in a favourable light. According to sources, two of the arrested publishers are based in Delhi and one is from Jammu. They were reportedly summoned for questioning before being taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
The controversy surfaced after authorities found that the book contained chapters portraying several terrorists and separatist figures as prominent personalities of Jammu and Kashmir. The content prompted security agencies to initiate an inquiry into the publication, distribution and approval process surrounding the book. Investigators are examining whether the material violated provisions of law relating to the promotion or glorification of terrorism and extremist activities.
According to sources, one of the Delhi-based publishers allegedly attempted to distance himself from the publication during questioning, while investigators continued to examine the roles of all those involved in printing and circulating the book. Officials are also looking into the editorial process, authorship, funding and distribution network to determine whether additional individuals or organisations played a role in the publication.

Sources in the Jammu and Kashmir Education Department said the probe is expected to widen further. Authorities are reportedly reviewing whether the book was supplied to educational institutions or other public platforms and are assessing if there were lapses in the screening process before its circulation. Further action is expected based on the findings of the investigation.
Security agencies have intensified efforts in recent years to curb the dissemination of material that allegedly promotes terrorism, separatism or violent extremism in the Union Territory. Officials have maintained that strict action will be taken against individuals or organisations found to be violating laws related to national security or attempting to spread extremist propaganda through published material.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not disclosed the complete list of charges or all evidence collected so far. The allegations against the arrested publishers will be examined through the legal process, and officials have indicated that further arrests or additional action could follow if more evidence emerges during the course of the probe.
