Microsoft Unveils ‘Agentic Users’: AI Employees That Work Like Real People In Enterprises

Microsoft unveils Agentic Users—autonomous AI agents with own identities to act as digital employees in M365.

Microsoft is preparing to introduce a new class of artificial intelligence tools for enterprise users, called Agentic Users, that can operate autonomously like human employees. Listed on the official Microsoft 365 roadmap, these AI agents are being developed as general-purpose digital entities capable of performing a wide range of tasks—from attending meetings to managing documents and communicating through email or chat. The company has tentatively scheduled a rollout for November, though an official release date for enterprise customers is yet to be confirmed.

According to the product description shared by Microsoft, the Agentic Users will differ significantly from traditional AI systems that focus on limited or specialized functions. These agents will possess their own digital identity and dedicated credentials, allowing them to move seamlessly across enterprise software and platforms. Once deployed, they will function as part of the workforce, with access to organizational systems and applications through the Microsoft 365 environment, including Teams and the M365 Agent Store.

Experts familiar with the internal documentation, such as Microsoft licensing specialist Rich Gibbons, suggest that these AI employees—internally referred to as A365—will require a special license allocated by administrators. Gibbons noted that multiple license tiers may be introduced to suit various organizational roles. Another administrator, João Ferreira, said the agents will have unique enterprise-level credentials, including their own email addresses, Teams accounts, and directory listings, effectively giving them a place in the organizational chart.

This development marks a major leap in enterprise automation, with Microsoft positioning these intelligent agents as collaborators capable of working alongside human teams and even other AI systems. As businesses increasingly adopt generative AI for daily operations, the introduction of Agentic Users signals Microsoft’s ambition to blur the line between machine support and self-directed digital co-workers, redefining the future of the corporate workforce.
