iPhone 18 Pro Max AT&T Glitch: Update Available, Replacement Required For Some Users

Apple confirms AT&T connectivity issue affecting some iPhone 18 Pro Max devices.

Apple has acknowledged a cellular connectivity issue affecting a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T’s network. The problem can cause affected devices to lose cellular service, leaving users unable to make or receive calls, send or receive text messages, or access mobile data. Apple said it has identified the issue and is working to prevent additional customers from being affected.

The problem affects the $1,299 iPhone 18 Pro Max, which was launched about two weeks ago as Apple’s highest-end conventional smartphone. Users experiencing the glitch may find their devices largely unusable away from Wi-Fi because the affected phones cannot maintain a connection to AT&T’s cellular network. Apple said the issue is limited to a small number of customers, although the exact number of affected devices has not been disclosed.

Apple has released a carrier-settings update and iOS 27.0.1 to address the problem and prevent the glitch from affecting more users. The carrier-settings update is expected to be automatically delivered to AT&T customers over the next 14 days. Apple is also advising users to install any available software updates immediately. Customers can manually check for the carrier update by opening Settings, selecting General and then About.

For users whose devices have already lost cellular service because of the problem, Apple has indicated that a software update will not restore the affected hardware. The company said those customers will need to replace their iPhone 18 Pro Max with another unit through Apple or AT&T. Users who are experiencing connectivity problems can therefore contact either provider to determine whether their device qualifies for replacement.

The issue appears to be connected to the specific cellular hardware used in the US version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Unlike other iPhone 18 models, the US Pro Max uses a Qualcomm-made cellular modem, while the smaller iPhone 18 Pro uses Apple’s in-house C2 modem. Customer reports have linked the AT&T connectivity problem specifically to the Pro Max, while Apple’s statement confirms that the issue affects a small number of Pro Max devices operating on the carrier’s network.
