Unitree G1 Robot Kicks Child at Xinjiang Show in Viral Video Sparking Safety Alarm
A humanoid robot at a Xinjiang show roundhouse kicked a child, sparking safety concerns.
A humanoid robot wearing a clown wig accidentally kicked a young child during a public performance in China's Xinjiang region, with footage of the incident quickly going viral on social media. The video shows the robot delivering a roundhouse-style kick to the child's stomach, causing the youngster to fall to the ground in pain. Fortunately, reports indicated that the child did not suffer serious injuries.
According to local reports, the incident occurred during a show at a tourist attraction in Xinjiang. While the child escaped major harm, the boy's mother reportedly criticized staff members for their slow response following the incident. The episode has reignited discussions about the safety of humanoid robots operating in public spaces, particularly around children.
The robot involved was identified as a Unitree G1 humanoid robot, part of China's growing investment in robotics and automation technologies. China has been expanding the use of advanced robots to address workforce challenges and showcase technological innovation. However, experts note that despite significant progress, such machines remain prone to unexpected errors and malfunctions.

The viral video sparked a wave of reactions online, with many users debating who should be held responsible when autonomous robots cause harm. Some questioned whether liability should fall on operators, manufacturers, or venue organizers, while others expressed concerns about the growing presence of artificial intelligence-powered machines in public settings.
The incident comes just weeks after another robot-related mishap in Xinjiang during a school sports event. In that case, a humanoid robot reportedly lost balance, fell, and began making erratic kicking movements that alarmed nearby performers. The latest episode has added to concerns over the reliability and safety of robots interacting directly with the public as their use becomes increasingly widespread.
