Trump Says China Agreed To Buy 200 Boeing Jets Boosting US Jobs

Trump claims China agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft.

US President Donald Trump said China has agreed to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft, describing the proposed deal as a significant boost for American manufacturing and employment. Trump made the remarks during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, portions of which were released on Thursday.

Speaking about his recent interaction with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump said the understanding was “sort of like a statement” but added that he believed it amounted to a commitment from Beijing. “That’s a lot of jobs,” Trump said while discussing the potential economic impact of the aircraft order on the United States aviation sector and supply chain.

Reports in US media suggested the possible agreement could involve around 500 Boeing 737 MAX single-aisle aircraft, along with approximately 100 wide-body planes, including the 787 Dreamliner and 777 models. However, the exact size, structure, and timeline of the proposed order have not yet been officially confirmed by either government or by Boeing. The aerospace manufacturer did not immediately respond to requests for comment following Trump’s remarks.

The developments come amid ongoing efforts by Washington and Beijing to stabilise trade and commercial relations after years of tensions involving tariffs, technology restrictions, and supply chain disputes. Boeing Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg, who was part of the US delegation during the Beijing summit, had earlier indicated that any major Chinese order would depend heavily on the broader state of US-China relations and negotiations.

Ortberg told analysts last month that he remained optimistic about future business with China, noting that aviation demand in the country remains substantial despite years of limited orders. China represents one of the world’s largest aviation markets, and Boeing has long viewed renewed access to Chinese buyers as critical to its long-term recovery and expansion plans.

Boeing’s last major aircraft order from Chinese authorities came in 2017 during Trump’s first presidential term, when China agreed to purchase 300 aircraft in a deal estimated to be worth around $37 billion. Any fresh large-scale order would mark a significant commercial breakthrough for the American aerospace giant and could signal improving economic engagement between the two countries.
