iOS 27 Code Hints at New Apple Wearable With Dual Cameras

iOS 27 code hints at Apple's new dual-camera smart wearable.

A system prompt reportedly discovered in the second developer beta of iOS 27 has revealed references to an unannounced Apple smart wearable equipped with two cameras. The device appears under the codename “B790” and could potentially be either the company’s first artificial intelligence-powered smart glasses or a future version of AirPods featuring built-in cameras.

Product designer Sam Henri Gold shared details of the hidden system prompt, which reportedly describes a wearable with two cameras positioned on opposite sides of the user’s head. The instructions refer to the cameras as being placed on the left and right sides, suggesting that the device could continuously capture visual information from the wearer’s surroundings.

References to spatial relationships, visual properties and visual identifiers also suggest that the wearable could support spatial imaging and visual intelligence features. According to the reported prompt, a user could point a camera at a landmark and ask for information about it, with the device identifying the object and providing relevant details based on what it sees.

One example included in the prompt reportedly describes the device identifying the Eiffel Tower in Paris and telling the user that the landmark was built in 1889. The wearable is also said to be capable of converting visual information into a short descriptive text query of fewer than 250 characters, potentially allowing artificial intelligence systems to interpret and respond to the wearer’s surroundings.

There is uncertainty over which Apple product the B790 codename represents. Gold believes the references point to the company’s rumoured AI smart glasses, while another report has suggested the codename may instead belong to a future AirPods model equipped with cameras. Apple has not confirmed that either product is currently under development, and the leaked details remain unofficial.

Previous reports have suggested that Apple could launch its first AI smart glasses next year, although those glasses have reportedly carried the separate internal codename N50. Camera-equipped AirPods have also been tipped for a possible 2027 launch. Until Apple makes an official announcement, the identity and launch plans of the B790 wearable remain unclear.
