Hyderabad Dad Uses Claude AI to Build Son's Robotic Arm

A father has shared how he used Anthropic’s artificial intelligence assistant Claude to help his son build a working robotic arm for a school technology fair. The project combined AI-assisted planning, locally sourced electronic components and 3D-printed parts, turning a potentially difficult assignment into a collaborative learning experience.

In a post on X, the man said he and his son initially searched YouTube for project ideas before deciding to construct the robotic arm. They then used Claude to help create the necessary 3D designs and had the parts printed by a service provider in Tolichowki, from where they were delivered through Rapido.

The pair purchased motors, chips, capacitors, resistors and wires from Koti to assemble the device. According to the father, Claude also helped them write the required code, diagnose technical problems and consider possible improvements. They repeatedly refined the design until the robotic arm performed more effectively.

The father said the activity developed into more than a routine school assignment, giving them an opportunity to learn, experiment and spend time together. The development process involved unsuccessful attempts and repeated corrections, but he believed those difficulties made the final result more rewarding for both of them.

He also argued that using artificial intelligence did not reduce the amount of learning involved in the project. Instead, it increased their curiosity and enabled them to attempt something that might previously have appeared too technically complex. The AI assistant served as an accessible guide while the father and son remained directly involved in designing and building the device.

The post received positive reactions from social-media users, including parents familiar with the challenges of assisting children with school projects. Several commenters praised the use of AI to close gaps in technical knowledge without replacing the shared experience. Others asked whether features such as voice control continued to function during the technology fair demonstration.
