Experts Explain Health Benefits And Risks Of Daily Apricot Consumption

Experts say daily apricot intake may support digestion, skin health and immunity when consumed in moderation.

Apricots, a nutrient-rich summer fruit often referred to as the “golden fruit,” may offer a range of health benefits when consumed daily, according to health experts and recent research. Packed with vitamins, fibre, and antioxidants, apricots are being highlighted for their potential role in improving digestion, supporting skin health, and boosting immunity when included in a balanced diet.

Experts note that apricots contain significant amounts of vitamin A, vitamin C, and dietary fibre, all of which contribute to various bodily functions. Vitamin A supports skin health and cellular repair, vitamin C strengthens immune response, and fibre helps promote healthy digestion. Studies cited in scientific journals also suggest that apricots possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce oxidative stress in the body.

Nutritionist Tapasya Mundhra explains that regular apricot consumption can support skin health by reducing dullness and improving elasticity. The presence of beta-carotene and antioxidants is believed to help combat free radical damage, while vitamin A may aid collagen production, contributing to healthier-looking skin over time.

Digestive health is another key benefit linked to apricot intake. Experts point out that the fibre content in apricots can help regulate bowel movements and reduce common issues such as constipation and bloating, particularly during the summer months when digestive discomfort is more common. The fruit may also support gut microbiome balance, contributing to overall digestive efficiency.

Beyond digestion and skin health, apricots may also support heart health due to their potassium content and assist in weight management as they are low in calories yet high in fibre. However, experts advise moderation, recommending around two to four fresh apricots per day depending on size, while cautioning against excessive consumption of dried apricots due to higher sugar concentration. Individuals with diabetes or allergies are also advised to monitor intake carefully.
