Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Faces Claim Of Frequent Dismissals By Bowler In IPL 2026 Season

Rajasthan Royals batting coach Vikram Rathour has humorously claimed that he is the only person within the franchise who can get teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi out "quite often" in the nets. Rathour made the cheeky remark during an interaction with legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, when asked if anyone in the Royals setup could dismiss the young batter during practice sessions .
Sooryavanshi recently shattered Chris Gayle's IPL legacy by becoming the batter to hit the most sixes in a single season, smashing 12 maximums against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Wednesday's Eliminator. With those 12 hits over the rope, the teenager broke a dozen other records, earning Star Sports the "Universe Boss Baby" tag in honor of his explosive batting performance .
The 12 sixes were part of a breathtaking 97 off just 29 balls, as Sooryavanshi tore into SRH's bowling lineup and helped Rajasthan Royals post a massive 243/8. The innings narrowly missed the record for the fastest hundred in IPL history, but the fearless stroke-play left opposition bowlers completely shell-shocked. Sooryavanshi now holds the Orange Cap with 680 runs in this season .

When RR pacer Jofra Archer was asked a similar question about where to bowl to Sooryavanshi in the nets, he dodged the query, saving his answer for after the season's conclusion. Rathour, however, gave a playful response to Gavaskar: "It's only me, I think. I throw it with my stick, and I actually get him out quite often. I'm not telling you why" .
Rathour served as India's batting coach between 2021 and 2024 and made his Test debut for India during the Birmingham Test against England in 1996. Incidentally, former India captains Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly also made their Test debuts during that same series, stepping out for the first time in the following match at Lord's, underscoring the legendary status of the coaching staff working with the young batter .
