U19 World Cup Champion Reacts After India’s Victory Over Pakistan

Former India U19 champion advises senior side to remain disciplined following high-profile Pakistan victory.

Former India Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Unmukt Chand has urged the senior national team to draw confidence from their recent victory over Pakistan, calling it a statement result ahead of a crucial phase in the tournament. Following India’s high-intensity win against Pakistan, Chand said such victories should serve as momentum-builders rather than isolated achievements. He emphasised that beating Pakistan carries emotional weight given the rivalry but stressed that the focus must quickly shift to consistency and execution in the matches ahead.

India and Pakistan share one of cricket’s most intense rivalries, shaped by decades of political tension and high-stakes encounters on the global stage. Wins in these fixtures often resonate beyond the sporting arena, boosting morale among players and fans alike. However, Chand underlined that sustained performance, not a single headline-grabbing result, ultimately defines tournament success.

The former U19 skipper, who led India to the Under-19 World Cup title in 2012, highlighted the importance of maintaining composure under pressure. He pointed out that experienced players such as Suryakumar Yadav and other senior members of the squad must set the tone in crunch situations, ensuring the team remains tactically sharp and mentally resilient.

Chand added that while victories against arch-rivals can energise a dressing room, elite teams are judged by how they back up big performances. He expressed confidence in India’s depth and firepower but reiterated that discipline, adaptability and clear game plans will be critical as the tournament progresses.

With momentum on their side after the Pakistan clash, India now face the challenge of translating emotional highs into consistent performances, as expectations continue to rise both at home and on the international stage.
