Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq Questioned For Four Hours by Pakistan's Cyber Crime Agency

Pakistan cricketers Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq were reportedly questioned for nearly four hours by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency in Lahore as part of an inquiry into alleged dressing-room leaks during the ongoing Test series against England. The questioning followed a complaint filed by the Pakistan Cricket Board, adding another dimension to the disciplinary crisis surrounding the national team. The exact details of the alleged leaks have not been publicly disclosed by the cybercrime agency.

According to reports, Pakistan’s team security manager handed over the mobile phones of both players to the NCCIA as part of the investigation. Rizwan and Imam have reportedly indicated that they are willing to allow forensic examinations of their devices. The two players have also sought additional time to submit written responses to questions raised by investigators, with one player reportedly questioned for several hours and the other given until the following week to respond to a questionnaire.

A PCB spokesperson confirmed that the NCCIA was investigating allegations involving dressing-room leaks but declined to provide further details because the inquiry is still underway. The case is considered significant because it is reportedly the first instance in which the PCB has approached a cybercrime agency over allegations involving members of Pakistan’s national cricket team. The investigation also carries a political dimension, as PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is Pakistan’s interior minister and the NCCIA functions under his ministry.

The inquiry comes after the PCB made sweeping changes to the squad following Pakistan’s disappointing Test tour of England. Seven players, including Rizwan and Imam, along with two support staff members, were sent back after the Lord’s Test amid reported concerns over discipline and conduct. Pakistan had already lost the opening Test by an innings and 103 runs before suffering a 194-run defeat at Lord’s, leaving the team under mounting scrutiny both for its performances and its internal functioning.

Both players have faced separate controversies during the tour. Rizwan has struggled for runs in recent matches, while Imam was involved in an injury-related issue after sustaining a Grade 1 tear in his left calf. His decision to take part in a few knockdowns despite appearing to experience physical difficulty reportedly raised questions within the PCB. The latest inquiry has further complicated their immediate cricketing commitments and placed their conduct under additional examination.

Rizwan and Imam are also set to miss the Presidents Cup, Pakistan’s premier domestic first-class competition, which begins on Saturday. The official explanation is that neither player completed the mandatory fitness tests required by their departmental teams. However, a PCB source indicated that the ongoing NCCIA inquiry was also a factor in the players not receiving clearance. Both had been expected to lead their respective teams, but the absence of valid fitness reports prevented them from being selected. The investigation has therefore extended beyond the England tour, deepening the crisis surrounding Pakistan cricket.
