IPL 2026: Gill Handed Rs 12 Lakh Fine For Over-Rate Breach After GT Beat DC by One Run

Gill was fined Rs 12 lakh for a slow over-rate after GT's dramatic one-run victory.

In a thrilling encounter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Wednesday, Gujarat Titans edged past Delhi Capitals by a narrow margin of one run at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The match went down to the wire, with DC needing two runs from the final two balls to win. GT pacer Prasidh Krishna produced a match-winning performance, bowling a dot ball followed by a clever slow bouncer to David Miller, which ultimately secured victory for the Titans. The high-pressure contest tested the skills and nerves of all involved.

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill, who scored a commanding 70 off 45 balls, was fined INR 12 lakh for a slow over-rate, as per the IPL’s Code of Conduct. This was GT’s first offence of the season. Washington Sundar (55 off 32) and Jos Buttler (52 off 27) also played key roles in helping Gujarat post a total of 210 for four, with Buttler’s six-laden half-century particularly standing out.

Delhi Capitals looked set for a win after KL Rahul (92 off 52) and Pathum Nissanka (41 off 24) built a strong 76-run partnership. However, Rashid Khan’s three wickets in the middle overs shifted momentum back to the Titans. Despite Miller’s valiant 41 not out off 20 balls and his explosive 23-run penultimate over from Mohammed Siraj, DC fell agonisingly short in the final moments.

The final over proved decisive. With Delhi needing two runs from three balls, Miller refused a single on the penultimate delivery, leaving partner Kuldeep Yadav at risk. Prasidh Krishna then bowled a slow bouncer, which Miller failed to connect with, and Jos Buttler swiftly broke the stumps at the non-striker’s end. This dramatic finish sealed Gujarat Titans’ first win of the season while handing Delhi Capitals their first defeat.

The game highlighted the razor-thin margins in T20 cricket, with individual brilliance and split-second decisions proving crucial. While Miller’s penultimate-ball hesitation proved costly, Shubman Gill’s leadership and the Titans’ collective efforts ensured a memorable and hard-fought victory.
