David Alaba To Exit Real Madrid Following Five Seasons At Spanish Club

David Alaba’s successful five-year spell at Real Madrid nears conclusion.

David Alaba will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season after the expiration of his contract, the club confirmed on Friday. The Austrian defender will depart after a five-year spell in the Spanish capital during which he won multiple major trophies despite battling persistent injury problems in recent seasons.

Alaba joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich and quickly became an important part of the squad. During his time at the club, the 33-year-old made 131 appearances and helped Madrid secure 11 trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns. His versatility and experience made him a key figure in defence during several successful campaigns.

In an official statement, Real Madrid thanked Alaba for his contribution to one of the club’s most successful periods. The club said it wished to express its “gratitude and affection” to the Austrian international for his role in the team’s achievements over the past five years.

Alaba is expected to bid farewell to supporters during Real Madrid’s final league match of the season against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. He is set to join fellow senior figures including Dani Carvajal and departing coach Alvaro Arbeloa in saying goodbye to fans at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Although Alaba has not yet announced his next destination, speculation regarding his future has already begun across European football circles. Despite his injury struggles, the defender remains one of Austria’s most experienced and recognisable footballers, having enjoyed highly successful spells in both Germany and Spain.

The veteran centre-back is also expected to captain Austria national football team at the upcoming World Cup later this year. His departure marks the end of another successful chapter in Real Madrid’s recent history as the club continues preparing for a new era under a changing squad and coaching structure.
