After 0-2 Defeat, Srikkanth's Advise to BCCI - “Just play in England Forever”

Srikkanth sarcastically urges India to scrap home tests after a 0-2 loss to South Africa.

Former India Captain and Ex-Chief Selector Kris Srikkanth launched a scathing, tongue-in-cheek attack on the national team’s alarming Test slump, sarcastically advising the BCCI to “scrap all home Tests” and instead send India to England permanently after the side suffered a humiliating 0-2 whitewash against South Africa. The stinging remarks came a day after India was crushed by 408 runs in the second Test in Guwahati on November 26, 2025, marking the second consecutive home series defeat following New Zealand’s historic 3-0 sweep exactly a year earlier. Once invincible at home for 12 straight years (2012-2024), India has now lost five of their last seven Tests under Head Coach Gautam Gambhir.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth ridiculed the team’s inability to win on any surface. “Now you’re getting thrashed on spinning tracks, regular tracks, every kind of track. In Kolkata they said, ‘This is the pitch we wanted’—fine. Guwahati was a perfectly good batting pitch, and still we collapsed. So what do they want now?” he asked, before delivering his deadpan solution: “I have a brilliant idea—India should stop playing Test matches at home altogether. Let all our Tests be played in England. There we get full houses, NRIs can plan holidays, and since we drew 2-2 there this year, clearly that’s the only place we can compete. No more home tests in India!”

The 1983 World Cup Winner’s sarcasm underscored a deeper frustration with India’s rapid fall from being an unassailable fortress to a side that has lost back-to-back home series for the first time in 93 years. South Africa, led by Temba Bavuma and inspired by off-spinner Simon Harmer’s match haul of 11 wickets in Guwahati, became only the second visiting team after New Zealand to clean-sweep India on Indian soil in the last decade.

Srikkanth’s outburst has resonated widely, with fans and pundits echoing the sentiment that the current team management has failed to arrest the slide in red-ball cricket. The timing could not be worse: India now risks dropping out of contention for the 2025-27 World Test Championship final, having won only two of their last ten tests.

With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia looming next month, pressure is mounting on Captain Rohit Sharma and Coach Gambhir to halt the free-fall. For now, Srikkanth’s satirical prescription—“Just play in England forever”—has become the bitter punchline capturing India’s stunning reversal of fortunes in the longest format.
