Young Pacer Prioritizes Team Victory Over Prized Kohli Wicket—A Rare Cricket Lesson
LSG defeats RCB by nine runs; young pacer Prince Yadav prioritises team victory over dismissing Kohli.
In a high-scoring Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 encounter on Thursday night, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by nine runs in a rain-affected match that went down to the wire in Lucknow. The contest saw early drama as LSG pacer Prince Yadav made a major impact by dismissing Virat Kohli for a two-ball duck, setting the tone for a tense run chase under challenging conditions. Despite RCB’s strong fightback later in the innings, LSG held their nerve to secure a crucial win in the league stage.
Prince Yadav, who struck early to remove Kohli cheaply, admitted that the wicket of the former India captain was a special moment for him personally. However, he was quick to underline that the team’s victory mattered far more than individual success. The young fast bowler’s breakthrough gave LSG an early advantage, putting pressure on RCB’s top order during a high-intensity chase where every wicket proved vital.
Speaking after the match, Prince said the result meant more than any individual achievement. “I felt good after the wicket, but my greatest joy is that we won the match. If I had taken the wicket and we had lost, it wouldn't have been that significant, but the best thing for me is that my team won. Winning the match for the team was more important to me,” he said during the post-match press conference, reflecting a team-first mindset.

Prince also spoke about the support he has received from LSG bowling coach Bharat Arun and senior India pacer Mohammed Shami. He revealed that regular discussions with them have helped him refine his approach and build confidence. According to him, Shami’s presence on the field and constant guidance have been especially valuable in understanding the nuances of bowling with the new ball at the highest level.
On the field, LSG posted a strong total of 209/3 in 19 overs after rain interruptions reduced the game duration. Mitchell Marsh led the charge with a brilliant 111 off 56 balls, supported by key contributions from Devdutt Padikkal and RCB skipper Rajat Patidar, who added a crucial 95-run partnership to keep their side in contention.
In response, RCB fought hard with notable knocks from Tim David, Krunal Pandya, and Romario Shepherd, but ultimately fell short in a tense finish. The result marked LSG’s third win of the season, though they still remain at the bottom of the points table, while RCB slipped to third after suffering their fourth defeat of the campaign.
