Yashasvi Jaiswal Reveals Plan That Fueled 77* In RR’s Win Over Mumbai Indians
Jaiswal scores 77* and shares his tactical approach in RR’s win over MI.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased a masterclass in strategic batting as he led his team to a 27-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in a rain-affected Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 encounter on Tuesday. Jaiswal, named Player of the Match, smashed an unbeaten 77 off 32 balls, including 10 fours and four sixes, helping RR post a challenging total of 150/3 in an 11-over game shortened due to rain.
During the post-match presentation, Jaiswal revealed the tactical approach he had prepared for the shortened three-over powerplay. “I had something in my mind because it was only a three-over power play, so I was thinking who I could take on. DC (Deepak Chahar) bhai was bowling, so I thought I could take him on. Then Bumrah bhai was going to bowl, so I was thinking Vaibhav can take him and then I can take on someone else,” he said, highlighting the importance of planning and team discussions.
Jaiswal also spoke about the challenges of modern cricket and balancing different formats. “It is not easy playing all formats. Trying my best every single time. Making sure I develop different shots and understand what to play on which wicket. It helps when I prepare well,” he said, emphasizing preparation, situational awareness, and adaptability as critical to his success.

The young opener praised his opening partner Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his aggressive batting and on-field collaboration. “The way he has been playing is tremendous. We discuss how we can go about things, and I keep giving him positive messages to play freely. He is amazing, understands the game well, and is capable of doing things on his own,” Jaiswal added.
RR dominated the short match, with Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi putting MI bowlers under pressure. Sooryavanshi scored 39 off 14 balls, hitting five sixes, while MI struggled to build momentum in the run chase. Bowlers Burger (2/21), Sandeep (2/25), and Bishnoi (2/26) led RR’s bowling attack, ensuring MI fell short of the target.
The victory keeps RR at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with three wins from three matches under skipper Riyan Parag. In contrast, MI has stumbled after initial success, losing to Delhi Capitals and RR, and sits seventh on the standings. Jaiswal’s calculated approach and the team’s cohesive performance highlight RR’s intent to dominate this season.
