Treesa-Gayatri Pull Out Of Uber Cup, BAI Names Replacement Pair

Treesa-Gayatri withdraw from Uber Cup; BAI announces replacements.

India’s women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have withdrawn from the upcoming Thomas & Uber Cup Finals due to an injury sustained by Treesa Jolly, dealing a setback to the national squad ahead of the prestigious team badminton event.

The Badminton Association of India (BAI) confirmed the change in the squad and announced that Shruti Mishra and Priya Konjengbam have been named as replacements. The governing body stated that the decision was taken after assessing Treesa’s injury status, which has prevented the pair from continuing their preparations for the tournament.

The Thomas & Uber Cup Finals will be held in Horsens, Denmark, from April 24 to May 3. The Thomas Cup will mark its 34th edition, while the Uber Cup returns for its 31st edition, bringing together the world’s top men’s and women’s national badminton teams in a biennial competition.

This latest withdrawal comes after a series of injury-related interruptions for the pair, who had earlier pulled out of the Badminton Asia Championships. They had also withdrawn from the Swiss Open 2026 after Treesa sustained an injury during their opening-round match against Chinese Taipei’s Hu Ling Fang and Jheng Yu Chieh, where they were trailing before retiring mid-game.

Despite the setback, India’s Uber Cup squad features a mix of experience and youth, with double Olympic medallist P. V. Sindhu expected to lead the side. She is joined by emerging talents such as Unnati Hooda, Tanvi Sharma, and Devika Sihag, as India aims to improve upon its past performances in the tournament.

India has been drawn in a challenging group alongside defending champions China, European team championship runners-up Denmark, and bronze medallists Ukraine. The women’s team, which won bronze in the 2014 and 2016 editions, was eliminated in the quarterfinals in the previous edition held in Chengdu in 2024, and will be looking to mount a stronger campaign this time despite the injury setback.
