Three Techies Die in Horrific Car-Lorry Crash Near Tumakuru
Three Bengaluru software engineers killed in car-lorry collision on NH-48 near Tumakuru while returning from a holiday trip.
A devastating road accident on National Highway 48 near Nelahal village in Tumakuru taluk of Karnataka claimed the lives of three software professionals in the early hours of Monday. The collision, involving a car and a stationary or slow-moving lorry under the jurisdiction of Kora police station, left three occupants dead on the spot and four others injured, one of them critically. The incident has once again raised concerns over highway safety and the dangers of long-distance travel after extended journeys.
The deceased have been identified as Aniket (42) from Punjab, Abhir (44) from Uttar Pradesh and Sanmokti (35) from Andhra Pradesh. All three were employed as software engineers in Bengaluru. According to police, the group of seven had embarked on a leisure trip to coastal destinations including Gokarna, Murudeshwar and Udupi, and were returning to Bengaluru when the accident occurred.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the car collided with the lorry from behind, indicating a possible lapse in driver alertness. Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok KV visited the accident site along with Kora police officials to assess the circumstances surrounding the crash. He confirmed that the impact was severe enough to cause instant fatalities, while four others sustained injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“Three people died on the spot after the car heading towards Bengaluru hit a lorry from behind. There were seven occupants in the vehicle, including the driver. The driver is in a serious condition, while the other three injured passengers are out of danger,” SP Ashok KV said. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to Tumakuru district hospital for postmortem examination.
Police are currently investigating whether driver fatigue, possibly due to lack of sleep after the long trip, or negligence led to the accident. Further details regarding the exact cause will emerge after forensic analysis and statements from the survivors. The tragedy has cast a shadow over the tech community in Bengaluru and serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with high-speed travel on national highways.
